Want to learn how to keep your lashes in place and your money in your wallet? Then keep reading on and you will learn how to remove your makeup without damaging your lashes.

Eyelash extensions enable you to completely change your morning beauty routine. Instead of waking up looking tired and puffy-eyed, having to grab your curler and multiple layers of mascara, we simply wash our faces and head out the door with no eye makeup necessary! There’s just something about extensions that makes us always look wide awake, and beautiful!

While lash extensions are convenient and time-saving, they’re not always easy to keep clean, whether you applied makeup as well as your extensions or you just feel that they’re in need of some upkeep. That’s not ideal, especially if it’s long before the six-week mark (which is how long they’ll last with proper care). So in order to keep your lashes in place and your money in your wallet, keep scrolling to learn how to remove your makeup without damaging your lashes.

Eyelash extensions make looking beautiful easy. But you still need to maintain your fake lashes!

How do you remove makeup with eyelash extensions?

Well, to begin with, at this point general advice and recommendation is that you don’t NEED to wear makeup when you have eyelash extensions. That’s kind of the whole point of eyelash extensions. However, if you really feel the need to, you can still wear eyeliners and eyeshadows, only if you’ll be sure to take the time and care involved with removing it. Just make sure you are taking it ALL off at the end of the day. Letting makeup build up around your extensions can cause them to come off early, and it can cause inflammation on your eyelids.

Fake lashes eliminate the necessity to wear makeup

With that being said, some people aren’t always so careful with makeup remover after a long day. That’s why makeup is generally a no-go. I recommend not wearing mascara or eyeliner, as it’s hard to remove and can cause the fake lash bond to break. If you still want to wear mascara, apply it ONLY to your lower lashes.

Putting aside your preferences over style and products, the first step in effective cleansing is to use formulas that are specifically made for lash extensions. Some products may contain ingredients that can weaken the bond of your lash extensions and cause them to fall out.

At the very least, make sure any eye makeup remover or cleanser you use near your extensions is oil-free. Most removers are very much oil based, so I would certainly recommend checking this before buying.

When you use moisturisers, or other face products, make sure not to use cream based moisturisers – instead, find a gel based one. This is because they have a tendency to gloop, and can break down the bonds of your fake lashes.

Try to avoid using cotton pads. Instead, the experts suggest using clean fingers or a spoolie brush to gently clean extensions, it’s important to note that they advise against using cotton pads or swabs. Cotton pads snag and can rip out your eyelash extensions. So after brushing through with the makeup remover, dab with tissue to remove the product. Repeat this step until all the mascara is gone.

Keep both your eyes looking on the left, not the right.

Make sure to deep-cleanse between lashes. During the eyelash extension application, when your lash technician adds a strand of eyelash extensions to your natural lashes, they don’t apply it directly on your skin but about 1mm away from your lash line because applying the glue directly to the skin can cause burns or flare up of a glue allergy.

Over time, this gap between the lash line and lash extensions can collect a build up of oil from the skin, makeup debris, and dust or dirt in the air. This is why cleaning your lashes and eyelids regularly with a lash extension cleanser is highly suggested.

The lash extension cleanser can be used every day on lashes with or without extensions. It keeps lashes clean and healthy without compromising the eyelash extension bond.

One of the best tips for removing makeup from your extensions successfully is to use a protective product post-cleanse. Even if you don’t have eyelash extensions in yet (or maybe you’re caught between appointments), it’s recommended that you use a serum. Conditioning serums are great for people who just want to get their natural lashes in better shape. I also suggest using a silk or satin pillowcase for sleeping on.
